Özet (abstract)

Introduction Psychomotor skills are motor and cognitive components that are essential to executing clinical procedures by nurses. In nursing and midwifery, psychomotor acquisition and competence include technical skills, motor coordination, and clinical decision-making. Incorrect execution of these skills results in adverse patient outcomes, including prolonged hospital admissions, a higher risk of infection, increased morbidity, and increased death. Its significance calls for inclusion in health education curricula, ensuring effective training. It is imperative for this systematic review to focus on how psychomotor teaching methods are applied in nursing/midwifery education and their impact on transferable skills. Methods This systematic review will involve an electronic search of 6 databases, namely: PubMed, Medline full text, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO and Scopus. Studies that do not relate to psychomotor skills, any population other than nurses/midwives, reviewed papers, studies published before 2020, and studies published in any language other than English will be excluded from this review. Conclusion This systematic review will describe the teaching strategies that improve psychomotor skills acquisition and competencies. The findings will inform training methods in an innovative in enhancing psychomotor skills.
