Abstract

ABSTRACT Despite growing recognition of women's contributions to rural development, limited evidence exists on the multidimensional factors shaping their roles in forest villages. This study addresses this gap by examining the determinants of women's contributions to rural development in 26 forest villages in Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye, using survey data from 260 women. Factor analysis, multiple linear regression, and non‐parametric tests were employed to identify key dimensions, determinants, and socio‐demographic differences. Six dimensions explaining approximately 69% of the total variance were identified, with agricultural participation and household responsibilities emerging as the dominant contributors. Regression results showed that women's contributions are strengthened by financial management, decision‐making, and diversified livelihood activities rather than forestry alone. The findings highlight women's central role in sustainable rural development and demonstrate the need for integrated, gender‐responsive policies that improve access to productive resources, financial inclusion, and participation in local decision‐making.
