[From Introduction] From almost as early as people made things, as far back as the Palaeolithic (Hiscock; Weitzel et al. \nthis volume), humans have experimented with scale to conceive and construct miniature objects. \n‘Humanity is the measure of all things…’, said Protagoras, and to a considerable extent the \narchaeological evidence from a wide range of cultures bears this out in the case of miniatures.
