Abstract

Osmanlı toplumunda önemli oranda bir gayrimüslim nüfus vardı.İmparatorluğun en güçlü olduğu 15-17.yüzyıllarda söz konusu gayrimüslim topluluğun dinine karışılmamakla beraber İslam dinini kabul edenlere, yani ihtida edenlere, Müslümanlara tanınan ayrıcalıklardan neredeyse daha fazlası tanınıyordu.Özellikle önemli isimlerin din değiştirip Müslüman olması Avrupa ile yaşanan rekabette değerli bir propaganda aracı haline dönüşebiliyordu.Mühtedilerin kendi "ihtida süreçlerini" anlattıkları eserler de bu rekabet ortamında dolaşıma giriyordu.
