Abstract
Osmanlı Devleti’nde devşirme ve pençik usulleriyle kapıkulu askeri temininde, din değiştirme yani Müslümanlığa geçme zorunlu tutulmaktaydı. Bu yollarla gerçekleşen ihtida literatürde genellikle cebri din değiştirme olarak değerlendirilmekte ve kapıkulluğunun da daha çok bu esas üzerine işlediği kabul edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın konusu Osmanlı Devleti’nde asker temini bakımından gönüllü ihtidadır. Çalışmanın maksadı ise gönüllü din değiştirmenin derecesini tespit edebilmek ve bunun devşirme ve pençik usullerine alternatif olup olmadığını ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın başında dirlik temininde din değiştirmenin şart olup olmadığı incelenerek ihtidanın zemini ele alındı. Sonraki kısımlarda ise sırasıyla ihtidanın ve dirliğe alınmanın usulleri, mühtedilerin kimler olduğu ve istihdamları, klasik dönem sonrasında ihtidanın aldığı şekil incelendi. Çalışmanın sonuç kısmında kısa bir literatür değerlendirmesiyle birlikte ihtidanın çeşitli veçheleri ele alındı ve zorlamanın din değiştirmedeki ağırlığı tartışıldı. Kaynak olarak esasen resmi kayıtlara başvuruldu, bu kapsamda dirlik teminine yönelik kayıt türleri incelendi.
