Abstract
19. yüzyılda geometri, fizik ve mekanikte ortaya çıkan gelişmelerin sonucunda Kartezyen epistemoloji zayıflamış ve onun yerine izafiyetçi bir anlayış filizlenmiştir. Postmodern dönemi belirleyen bu izafiyetçi yaklaşımın 20. yüzyıldaki dil yorumu şeklinde ele alınabilecek Sapir – Whorf hipotezine göre, dil evreni bize kendi penceresinden resmeder. Bu nedenle, dilin sunduğu bu tasavvurlar dünyası incelenmedikçe kendine özgü ortak bir akıl temelinde örgütlenmiş toplumların gerçeklik algıları açıklanamaz. Dilsel görelilik akımı kapsamında incelenmesi gereken hipotezde, hakikatin tek ve evrensel olduğu görüşü tartışmalı bir konu haline gelir. Dilin düşünme alışkanlıklarımız üzerindeki etkisinin saptanması, epistemolojinin bir tür dil felsefesi olarak ele alınabileceği görüşünü kuvvetlendirmektedir. Çözümleyici yöntem kullanılarak meydana getirilen bu tez çalışmasının amacı arka planı, müracaatları ve sonuçları itibariyle Sapir – Whorf hipotezini dil felsefesi literatürü içerisinde konumlandırmak ve hipotezin dil, düşünce, gerçeklik, bilim ve sanat konularındaki temel görüş ve iddialarını açıklamaktır.
