Abstract

This article explores key methodological concerns in the Islamisation of Human Knowledge (IOHK), focusing on the structure of social institutions across time and space as discussed in AbdulHamid AbuSulayman’s Towards an Islamic Theory of International Relations: New Directions for Methodology and Thought (1993). Using qualitative textual analysis, the article examines empirical research, the time-space dimension, and the relationship between worldview and research practice. The analysis identifies sensitivity to context and engagement with empirical reality as key methodological commitments. It also highlights several questions requiring further clarification, particularly the distinction between enduring principles and contextual interpretation, the assessment of competing applications, and the relationship between value commitments and objectivity. Accordingly, the article contributes by distinguishing the epistemological orientation of AbuSulayman’s approach from the procedures required for its implementation.
