Özet (abstract)
In this chapter, it is assumed that subjects have difficulty with cue learning problems to the degree that they tend to use strategies which conflict with the strategy intended by the experimenter. The present theorectical discussion begins with a set of strategies and is concerned with the mechanisms by which the subject might select out those strategies intended, and consistently rewarded, by the experimenter. It considers three versions of the learning curve: the succession of correct and wrong responses by an individual subject, the average learning curve of a group of subjects, and a corrected or idealized form of the learning curve computed by adjusting a group learning curve or by averaging the data of subjects who are selected after the fact for similarity of over-all performance. In the present theory the actual trial on which learning takes place is not in any way fixed, but depends upon the random outcome of the process of selecting strategies.
