Short summary
Meniscus tears, caused by trauma in younger individuals and degeneration in older adults, result in knee pain, swelling, and limited mobility, with treatment varying based on tear location and vascularization.

Key points
- Meniscus tears affect the knee's C-shaped cartilage, crucial for stabilization and shock absorption.
- Younger individuals typically experience tears from sports-related trauma, while older adults develop them through degeneration.
- Symptoms include pain, swelling, limited mobility, locking, and clicking sounds.
- Treatment is tailored to tear type, location, and patient activity, with the vascularized outer zone having self-healing potential, unlike the inner zone.

Abstract
Meniscus is a disorder caused by the tearing of two C-shaped cartilage structures located between the femur and tibia bones, which provide knee stabilization and act as shock absorbers. While it occurs in young individuals due to severe traumas in sports activities involving sudden movements like falling, twisting, or jumping, it manifests in individuals over the age of 50 due to degenerative reasons linked to tissue weakening over time. Its most prominent symptoms include sudden or delayed severe pain, swelling caused by fluid accumulation, limited mobility, locking, and a clicking sound from the knee. The treatment approach is planned based on the type, degree, location of the tear, and the patient's physical activity level. While the vascularized outer part of the meniscus (red zone) has the potential to heal on its own with non-surgical methods such as rest, ice, bandaging, and physical therapy, the unvascularized inner part (white zone) cannot heal spontaneously and requires surgical intervention.
