Determinants of crowdfunder’s behavior in using the crowdfunding waqf model for poverty alleviation in Somalia

Abstract

Poverty remains a persistent and multidimensional challenge across many parts of the Muslim world. Somalia is among the poorest Muslim countries due to poverty, which hinders social and economic development. Hence, this paper adopts the TAM to examine the key factors that influence donors’ behavioural intent to utilise the Crowdfunding Waqf Model (CWM) as an innovative financing tool for poverty in Somalia. This paper employs a quantitative method, and data were gathered from 530 crowdfunders and potential donors in Mogadishu, Somalia, using self-administered, structured questionnaires. Using the TAM framework, the study employed a Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach to evaluate the hypothesis. The findings reveal that perceived ease of use has a significant impact on both perceived usefulness of CWM and behavioarl intention of crowdfunders to use CWM. Moreover, the study found that perceived usefulness significantly and positively predicts crowdfunders’ intention to adopt CWM. Moreover, the study recommends that policymakers develop supportive legal frameworks for waqf-based crowdfunding and implement awareness programs to increase public participation. It also calls for a strategic revision of existing poverty reduction policies to ensure more sustainable and effective outcomes.
