Abstract

Bogotch demonstrates the historical location of debates in the field and gives recognition to, and provides evidence about, the decline in debating. In my commentary, I confirm this and examine some of the reasons why this has happened. I draw on my own experience of field membership and show how peer review can be misused, and how incidents of sexual harassment can deliver abuse by those who are either unable or unwilling to engage in debates about research ideas, methodologies and strategies.
