The 46th Annual Meeting of the J.B. Johnston Club for Evolutionary Neuroscience and the 38th Annual Karger Workshop in Evolutionary Neurosciences

Short summary

The Karger Workshop will explore how cell types and neural connections diversified, were conserved, or independently innovated across vertebrate evolution, integrating single-cell transcriptomics with homology studies.

Key points

  • The Karger Workshop focuses on the evolution of cell types and neural connections in vertebrates.
  • It integrates single-cell transcriptomic atlases with studies of cell type homology across species.
  • Key areas of discussion include primate-specific cell types, immature neuron populations, and human-specific gene regulatory changes.
  • The goal is to create a cross-species framework linking cell type diversity to neural organization and cognitive evolution.
  • The J.B. Johnston Club meeting includes 17 member talks and an invited Karger Speaker.

Abstract

This year's Karger Workshop in Evolutionary Neuroscience, made possible by the continuing support of Karger Publishers, is organized by Carmen Falcone and Nereo Kalebic. It is entitled "Evolution of Cell Types and Neural Connections".The workshop will examine how cell types and neural connections have diversified, been conserved, or independently innovated across vertebrate evolution.Integrating single-cell transcriptomic atlases with studies of cell type homology across reptiles and mammals, primate-specific cell types, immature neuron populations, and human-specific gene regulatory changes, speakers will build a cross-species framework for understanding how cell type diversity is generated and how it maps onto neural circuit organization and cognitive evolution. On the following day, the program for the annual JBJC meeting will consist of 17 talks submitted by JBJC members and reviewed by the JBJC Program Committee (Carmen Falcone, Grace Capshaw, Kei Yamamoto) plus a presentation by this year's invited Karger Speaker, Dr. Genevieve Konopka.Additional information and the final schedule of talks will be mailed to JBJC members before the meeting and posted on the JBJC web site (www.jbjclub.org).
