Abstract
Abstract This data paper presents the development of a database of seismic links in eccentrically braced frames (EBFs). The data set, which comprises 240 tests conducted since 1977, features fully digitized hysteretic diagrams of the link shear force versus the link rotation angle along with other metadata that characterize the behavior of EBF links under monotonic and cyclic loading. The findings indicate that in most cases the deduced elastic link stiffness diverges from theoretical predictions, thus suggesting the use of more detailed instrumentation to measure the isolated link rotation angle throughout the imposed loading history. Comprehensive comparisons of overstrength factors between current and prospective design standards suggest that the web contribution of the link should be considered in its flexural resistance computations. A simple equation is proposed to account for flexure-shear interaction in the shear resistance of intermediate links. It is shown that the link rotation angle is dependent on the web-to-flange yield stress ratio and somewhat dependent on the web slenderness ratio of the cross section besides the normalized link length. This dependence is more apparent for links with built-up cross sections due to potential differences in the material properties between the flange and web plates. The EBF link database, which is made publicly accessible, can inform the further development of seismic standards for EBF systems.
